Fancy giving Sailing a go? Our range of modern dinghies means that, whatever your experience, we have the boat for you. Alternatively, if you have your own boat, we offer own-boat tuition so you can learn how to get the most out of it! Please note that Sailing boats are not available for hire.
We offer a range of courses to suit all ages and abilities whether it is your first sailing experience or you are wanting to refresh your skills if you have not sailed for a while. These can lead on to the internationally recognised RYA qualifications, or we can arrange tuition on a more bespoke basis to suit you.
2 Hours / £80 per person
Our Sailing Taster Sessions provide the perfect opportunity to come and have a go, without having to commit to a 2-day course. It might be something you have always fancied, but not had the confidence to try and see if it is for you. Maybe you have not sailed for a while and just need some help getting back get out on the water. Whatever your reason, our taster sessions will give you the basic skills you will need if you decide to go on and book a RYA Course.
We run taster sessions in either Single-hander boats – great if you want maximum time at the controls, Laser 16’s, which take upto 4 people – great for couples and familes and Hawk 20 sessions that can take up to 6 people. This is our most stable boat, really well suited for people who are less mobile or for those wanting the bigger boat experience.
A 2 hour Lake Cruise to enjoy the peacefulness and tranquillity of the lake, and stunning mountain views as you glide over the water. Come and join us for a pleasant afternoon sail on Derwent Water – a perfect activity for the whole family.

We offer a range of courses whether it is your first sailing experience or you are wanting to refresh your skills if you haven’t sailed for a while. These can lead on to the internationally recognised RYA qualifications, or we can arrange tuition on a more bespoke basis to suit you. Our dinghy sailing courses will use a combination of single and double handers, or we can offer sailing courses in our larger Keel Boat.
We have a wide range of good quality wetsuits, spray tops and buoyancy aids but you will need your own footwear such as wetsuit boots or old trainers.
Each course is normally 2 days depending on experience, although it is possible to consolidate Level 1 with Levels 2 and 3 over a 5-day course.

RYA Level 1 – Start Sailing
An introduction to sailing for complete beginners, covering everything you need to know to get afloat under supervision.
RYA Level 2 – Basic Skills
Build your confidence and develop your skills. By the end of this course, you’ll be a competent sailor in light winds.
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme – Stages 1 to 4
The Youth Sailing scheme is usually completed in small dinghies suitable for the size of the sailor, but courses can also be completed in keelboats and multihulls. Our expert instructors offer a safe environment for children to have fun, learn and challenge themselves. Youth Courses are aimed at children aged 10 to 15 years. For younger children please contact us for further information or request a Private session.
For those wanting to improve their skills further we can also offer the following courses:
RYA Level 3 – Better Sailing
Improve your sailing consolidating skills and trying new ones in a variety of conditions. Please contact us for further details.
Seamanship Skills / Sailing with Spinnakers / Start Racing
These are all advanced courses and a minimum level of RYA Level 3 is required to participate.
Each course runs over 2-days and are suitable for adults and young people. Please contact us for further details.
We can also offer Adult and Youth Sailing Courses as a Private booking. For families with children below the course minimum age requirement you will need to request a private group session. Please complete the Private Booking Enquiry form and select ‘Private Group Session’, entering your details (including children’s ages) and preferred date(s) and we will check availability and get back to you with information and a quote.
Our Onboard Sailing Club is for young people aged 9-16. The club meets every Tuesday from April through to the end of October. The club is a great way for young people to sail regularly with expert advice and support.

16.45 to 19.00 – April, May, June, September, October
17.30 to 20.00 – July and August
Annual Membership – £55 (Membership needs to be paid in advance to secure a place in the club for 2023).
Onboard Sessions – £8 for members, £16 for non-members
Members are entitled to reduced rate sessions and a 10% discount on all shop merchandise.
Non-members are also welcome!
Please contact us if your child is interested in joining the club. There are a limited number of places available each season.
We have range of wetsuits and buoyancy aids available for members to use. Please bring footwear such as wetsuit boots or old trainers as our shorelines are stoney. To make it more affordable for club members to have their own wetsuits, we offer our club members a 30% discount off any wetsuit and the Sola Towel Changing Robe.
Changing rooms and toilets facilities are available on site. We do ask that, if possible, members arrive with their their swimming costume / trunks beneath their regular clothing.
Please note that we do not sell any refreshments so we recommend that members bring along a snack and drink.
