Go Paddle Boarding

Stand-up Paddle Boarding, otherwise known as SUP, is the fastest growing water sport of recent times. Hugely popular with people of all ages it provides a great workout to develop fitness and core strength. We use the best quality boards to ensure you get the very best experience.

Here at the Marina, you can hire a board or if you want to build your confidence and skills before going alone, why not join one of our group introductory taster sessions with one of our qualified SUP Instructors. You can also develop your skills on one of our courses to work through your British Canoe Paddle Awards.

Hire a Paddle Board

Stand Up Paddle Boarding (Sup’ing) is a great way to explore the lake and enjoy the wildlife and scenery of Derwent Water.  You can hire one of our boards for a 2, 3 or 4 hour session.  You can even hire a board for the full day and enjoy a picnic on one of the islands.  Our staff are on hand to advise you on the best places to go.

The hire season starts on 1st April and sessions are available everyday through to 31st October.  Advanced booking is recommended, especially at weekends and during school holidays.

An Introduction to Paddle Boarding

This summer join us for some fun and adventure on one of our group ‘Taster’ sessions with a qualified SUP instructor. Whether you are on holiday or live locally and have always wanted to ‘give it a go’ our taster sessions will give you all the basics you need to get out on the water safely and confidently. Book on your own or with a group of friends or the family and you will learn new skills and hopefully have loads of fun in the process.

£60 per person (based on minimum group size of 3)


We have range of high-quality craft, wetsuits, and buoyancy aids, which are included in the price.  Changing rooms and parking also available for all our customers. Please bring footwear such as wetsuit boots or old trainers as our shorelines are stoney.

Improve your Paddling Skills

When starting your paddlesport journey, no matter what craft you use, there are a range of courses on offer to support the development of your skills.  Courses are open to all ages and great for individuals, families and groups wanting to improve their skills and feel confident on the water.

Whether you are looking for an enjoyable introduction to flat water paddling or wanting to improve your paddling skills, we can help you get the most out of your time on the water.

As a British Canoeing Partner our courses follow the British Canoeing Start and Discover Awards in Canoeing, Kayaking and Paddle Boarding.

Start Award

The Start Award is exactly what it says on the tin, it’s a place to start your paddling journey. If you’re brand new to paddling and really want to learn the basics to get started, then this is the course for you! You’ll cover everything from getting in and out of the boat or on and off your board, what you need to wear and some useful paddling skills.

Discover Award

This allows you to develop your decision making and practical skills for a fun and safe time on the water, as you become a more skilled and independent paddler. Through this award, you will learn how to choose and effectively use equipment, whilst developing an understanding of the factors which affect your paddling.
